Hot Springs, Arkansas – November 1, 2020 - The SFLIC Board of Directors is pleased to announce that SFLIC’s President and CEO, Courtney C. Crouch, Jr., FLMI, CPC, celebrated his 50th anniversary with the Company on October 13, 2020.

Hired in 1970, Courtney has led SFLIC through numerous changes and expansions, including growing the Company’s assets from $1.2 million in 1970 to $189 million at year-end 2019. SFLIC, an Arkansas-domiciled legal reserve life insurance company, expanded into Oklahoma in 1978, Louisiana in 1990, and Mississippi in 1999. Growth of the Home Office operations saw the corporate offices move in 1975 from a Central Avenue location in Hot Springs to the then newly built Quapaw Street office building. Later, SFLIC moved to its current location, the former United States Post Office (circa 1900s). Inspired by Courtney’s interest in historic preservation, the architectural design team and master craftsmen renovated the building to its former grandeur and current practical application as a fully functioning corporate office space. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, and, in 1991, won Preserve Arkansas’ Excellence in Preservation for Renovation Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Historic Preservation.

Courtney has dedicated his professional life to the insurance industry and the funeral profession. He was named to the Arkansas Funeral Directors Association’s Hall of Fame in 2016. Courtney’s influence and work within the insurance industry has been significant, including serving in leadership roles with the Arkansas Association of Insurance Companies (AAIC), of which he is a founding member, the Arkansas Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association, and in other initiatives and capacities. A graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, he began his life insurance career at First Pyramid Life Insurance Company in Little Rock, and worked at National Investors Life Insurance Company in Little Rock prior to joining SFLIC in 1970.

On October 13, SFLIC Chairman of the Board Sumner Brashears shared a company-wide sentiment making the following remark, “Our organization is truly blessed to have an individual like Courtney Crouch who has dedicated these 50 years to the success of SFLIC’s goals of serving our funeral home clients’ families.”
